I know a person on another board who is studying paleontology and who works in a museum and knows a very famous scientist named Dr. Robert Bakker. She's been on digs with him.

We were discussing favorite prehistoric animals, and I wondered if any members on this board have any. I realize that it may be an odd place to ask, but am constantly amazed at the range of knowledge here.

I'll vote for Allosaurus, although I don't really like the nasal flanges they are now thought to have had in most sub-species. Kind of like Deinonychus, too. That big claw must have been a ripper. Skull of Deinonychus:

Oh, well: this may be the orphan thread of the week. Just curious.

The Smithasaurus is my favorite with the Coltasaurus following a close second and Rugerasaurus at the very bottom of the list...:)

Baryonyx - I have a plaster cast of a baryonyx thumb claw that they used to catch fish.

I find all dinosaurs fascinating but the Tyrannosaurus rex is my favorite. I'm waiting on the day they create a real jurassic park. Scientist have done so much with DNA that it may be possible one day to do this.

Texas Star,

Ask your friend if she ever did any diggin' with Bob out at the Carlin Ranch in Wyoming.

He's been doin' digs there for over 25 years and much of the stuff that made him "famous or infamous" came from there.

Bakker named some kind of a lemur like critter he unearthed after me, but I don't remember what it was.
