I bought a uncle mike's number 2 size holster which according to their packaging the 2 size is for a 3-4" medium to large double action revolver..and my 586 is a 4" so it shoulda worked and it does KINDA but the holster is too narrow I have to push it in to get it in good and it still sticks out too much IMO.

any suggestions? or does anyone else use this

Take it back and tget the next size bigger, Uncle Mikes stuff has away been a turn off for me. It will be like steel wool being used on your gun. Get a leather one and take hot wax and rub into the inside, then a bunch of mink oil to the outside. Have Fun, Hope this is some help. John

I use a Bianchi 7001 Black Accumold sz 04
holster for my S&W 586 L-Frame 4" .357 magnum.

I have used UM exclusively for several years on K and N frame revolvers and a couple of auto's. I have not had any issues of abnormal wear. I can buy them at my Local __-mart and recommend them as a cost effective option. Take it back, the full lug might be the problem. beaver
