... and I'm completely unimpressed. Yes, I realize they are only backup sights. Yes, I realize the PTS line is cheap. But seriously, these things are garbage. The rear sight aperture is loose and wobbles all over the place, and they just look and feel like ****. I didn't expect much for $15 (eBay), but these don't live up to even minimal expectations. They are the Gen 1 MBUS, which I understand to be of a lesser quality than the Gen 2 sights. Are the Gen 2's any better or should I look elsewhere for my backup sight needs?

I recently bought a set and told myself they are what they are, junk. When they arrived i put them on and they work ok. Im not pumped about them but not dissatisfied. If you went to mcdonalds and asked for a cheeseburger at 1/5 the price, guess what u would get? A pickle burger. :p

Either way. You're going to have to put out $80.+ for a good set of folding sights and get it over with. Stay away from the airsoft knock-offs.Even the kids are mountaing better sights than those.

Here's my 10/22 decked out with the Magpul PTS stuff. For a total of $55 for all of it im not gonna complain. Its on a gun that i don't plan on strapping to my back and running through the deserts of iraq.

Like I said, I didn't expect much. I did figure they would be of better quality than they are. I see what you are saying Major, however, I am of the opposite persuasion. I don't see the point in putting a $500 optic on a $500 gun. It's not a battle rifle. My life does not depend on its function. I punch paper and shoot cans with it. I put stuff on it that works but does not cost a fortune.

As for my question in the OP, are the Gen 2 MBUS any better than the Gen 1?

I got some gen 2's that will be here sat. I will try to give you an opinion when I get.

No one said anything about $500 optics, but if that was what it took to get the results I wanted, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I have a $300 scope on my match 77/22 because that's what I needed when I was shooting competitively.

The scope on my 15-22 was $100 and it does what I need for the type of shooting I do with it.

I'm no expert, but from what I've learned, you have 3 main options for folding BUIS.

1) Spend $15 & buy the Chinese junk (not the boat) that looks like a sight but doesn't act like one. If you don't care about shooting but only want your gun to look cool... this is your option.

2) Spend a little over $200 for metal Troy sights. These are what I use on my AR & I think they are the best out there.

3) Spend about $80 for the high quality plastic molded sights from Magpul. These are what I have on my 15-22 & I am very impressed with them. I have the Gen 2. IMO, they are perfect for such a gun as this & actually would feel very safe in using them on my AR.

I have both sets. The Gen 1 on the post of the front sight, is way longer/taller than the Gen2. I was told the length/tallness was messing up the sigh adjustment to where it was shooting low. Gen 1 post looked a little thicker also. Looks are cosmetic as the Gem 2 has the release on the side levers and on the top with a grooved little valley. thinking I am missing something else, another senior moment!

I think the overwhelming number of MagPul sights installed are for this reason. :D

The quality of REAL MagPul sights is the same - Gen 1 or Gen 2. What you bought were NOT MagPul sights; they are Chinese knock-offs, just like everything else sold on eBay that are called PTS. MagPul does NOT make PTS sights.

I know this. Never said they were legit Magpul. I know the PTS stuff is Chinese. As for the $500 optic comment. That was just an example providing insight into my state of mind. I don't need an Aimpoint to shoot beer cans at 25 yards. I was primarily just wondering if the Gen 2 sights were of a higher quality than the Gen 1's.
