I bought this gun 6 years ago (as some of you on here may know, I've posted about it quite a bit over the years) and it came with the smooth wood grips in the bottom left. Well they drove me nuts (the only thing I didn't care for about my RIA, honestly), so I bought some Hogue rubber grips in Desert Tan (I like them, but I bought dad a pair in Olive Green and they look better IMO).

But lately I've been thinking that what I really want is some wood grips... And a lot of people I've spoken with have agreed. So finally broke down and bought some fully checkered laminant rosewood Pachmayrs (sp?). Never have owned a pair, but they're very nice quality. Probably won't swap the grips over until I finish cleaning it though.

Those blah smooth wood grips were what came with my RIA and I immediately went looking on Ebay for something better. I found some checkered walnut for $20 and was very happy. I think you will like yours when they are installed.

I have a set of the Hogue rubber in black. They fit nice and give a good grip, just not anything special. I put a set of G10 on my Sig 1911 and while they look good I keep having to tighten the grip screws when they loosen after so many rounds. Picked up a S.A. loaded target and love the wood cross cannon grips. They also have yet to loosen up. I'm looking for a nice set of wood grips for the Sig now.

I think those grips will look gangbusters on your RIA! Here's a pic of my RIA 9mm Tactical with a set of left over Kimber stocks.

I have an RIA in 38 Super. About 25 years ago a buddy gave me a set of ivory stocks with Medieval themed scrimshaw and I have them on the Super. Unfortunately the left panel split lengthwise and had to be glued back together. Almost adds to the charm.

I put the IAI full wrap around grips on my norinco project 1911. I prefer rubber grips on my ccw guns. The IAI Grips are Israeli.

We have a fellow forum member who produces stocks that will nicely dress up a Rock Island 1911.

I think the factory Rock Island cardboard grips were intended to be upgraded.

Whatever you do, don't go look at all the exotic wood grips available from Ahrend's....trying to choose just one is driving me to drink.
I've narrowed the choice down to 4 , as of today. Too many beautiful woods.

Or, just make your own. With Hogue finger grooves.
