I acquired this set of Combat grips awhile back and although they were in pretty rough shape, I could see that they had potential. Finally got around to refinishing them and I am real happy with the results. I guess they were worth the $35 investment. Should have taken a "before" pic but "after" is what really matters. My Lew Horton 624 seems pleased don't you think?

One of my dream guns and grips. Very nice.

Looks like you did a really nice job with the refinishing, and at $35, you certainly made a good investment. I'm curious though, do these fit your hand well? Most finger groove grips hit my hand in the wrong places, so they've never been much of a personal temptation.

No30,
I hear what you are saying about finger groove grips. This set of K frame Sq. butt grips (unknown maker) that I refinished at the same time as the Combats, don't fit my hand worth a dang but the N Combats seem to have been made with my hand as reference. Just lucky I guess.

The K's were really hidious to start with, having some kind of dark tinted finish applied to make them look like Rosewood I guess. Pretty wood underneath though and they should make good "tradin stock".

Dang, those came out nice!

I have the same gun w/ grips & another set of Combats on a K Frame, I can't see the difference between mine & yours.

Good job.

Not Stainless but -
She sure is pretty with the Combats.

I like what you did with the N frame grips. If you're willing to do the refinishing, you should be able to get a pretty good deal.

I need to know the refinishing process you followed . . . one set of mine really needs refinishing.

I started out by stripping off the old finish with CitriStrip and then lightly sanding the wood while still attached to the frame to avoid rounding the seam between the two halves of the grip. On the N Combats, I used some dark walnut MinWax stain to darken the Goncola Aves a bit. After that I sprayed 4-5 light coats of the Wipe-On Satin Polyurethane with the little Harbor Freight detail gun. The J frame targets shown in the pic were also done with this last batch.
