I have a Governor in my collection of S&W revolvers. It came as most do with the Hogue K/L Bantam Boot Grip. The only other option was the Crimson Trace Grips. How about some pics of Governors with aftermarket grips. I would particularly be interested in wood grips on the Governor. I love Ahrends. I just can't decide which size to get...boot, round butt combats, round to square conversions, etc. Please don't turn this thread into one of those that bashes the Governor as being a useless concept. Thanks!

You can get these without the seal from Altamont.

Hogue

I bought this 500 grip from S&W but they came w/o a stirrup. They are Model 500 conversion grips and run about $40 w/shipping. I'm calling Monday to see why a stirrup was not included.

I fitted the Hogue 500 and they're great in-hand (I have bigger than average hands) but put the stock grip back on until I can get it permanently secured.

Groo here
Order an X grip from Smith and ask to send the lanyard screw.
Kill 2 birds with one stone...

I bought my Governor in early June of last year. I found the holster on S&W's accessories page and had it within a week. The second day I owned the Governor found me borrowing some X-frame grips from one of my 629's. They've only been off for cleaning . I love wood grips - they dress up a revolver - but they 'enhance' snappy recoil, too - the padded backstrap is more comfortable to shoot hotter loads with.

Many thanks to the Forum for the great info. I just got my 500 magnum grips today and fits the Governor perfectly and solves my large hand/bantam grip problem. If anyone has large hands the 500 magnum grip replacement is perfect for the Governor.

Gentlemen,

"Stirrup" and "lanyard screw?" I'm well familiar to lanyard screws for some of our much older military pistols, but was not aware that modern revolvers could be so equipped. Will this too, work with the Governor? If so, I'll order some right away. Will they work with the standard, issue grips that come with the Governor, or will they only work with the 500 Magnum grips that I've ordered for two of my four Governors?

Thanks for your time and kind consideration. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

OldArcher, out...

the "stirrup" came with the new 500 magnum grip I put on my Governor. It is the same part I got with my 627 and allowed me to remove the wood grips and replace with the hogue rubber.
In the case of the Governor the original Bantam grip slips over the pin and rides a groove to the bottom and sets into a recess in the grip and holds it in place. After spreading the bantam at the bottom I just slipped it off the pin. The stirrup snaps into the pin and provides a threaded extension for the screw to attach to from under the grip and holds it in place.
I think we can order a lanyard piece instead of a flat screw and would tighten up the grip to the frame and has a hole or loop for a lanyard to attach. I would like to get a couple of these also so I could use this option in the woods or hiking.

I'm picking up a Governor in the next couple weeks and I am very interested in swapping grips

Stirrup??? Lanyard screw???

Do you have a photo showing these parts on the Governor? I know of lanyard on the 1911. Would like to see one. I like the concept of not loosing you revolver out in the woods. Hummm another use for more paracord!:D
