Have a couple of M&P 22 magazines that were pretty sticky on the outside from the factory oil. I hit them with a little gun scrubber to remove. After shooting its back. Do most people strip and clean new magazines? Do they need any sort of oil?

I also always take apart all new magazines and use solvent to remove every trace of factory storage grease/oil. After they are clean & dry...I'll look for raised seams or burrs and remove/polish anything noticeable.

For regular cleaning...I wipe down all metallic magazine parts with a light coat of CLP then wipe again with a dry patch before reassembling. Keep the follower and magazine tube together as a pair...no mix n' match.

After shooting, the grease is back on the outside of the magazines? Try cleaning your magazine well and make sure you're not leaving excess lube on your slide and other areas. Sounds like it's simply being redeposited from elsewhere.

This M&P 22 is the greasiest gun I've ever owned. From the factory it was slathered!

I hear Beretta uses extra virgin olive oil on theirs. ;)

I'll usually disassemble new mags, then clean them with a cleaner, dry them, then spray silicone spray down the tube. I let that dry then floss them with a paper towel to get out any liquid silicone.

If they're getting greasy again after you've cleaned them, it must be coming from somewhere else.
