Another western NC member. Happy Holidays to all.
I'm a retired federal LEO hiding out in the Blue Ridge Mtns.
Been a while since I've owned (or used) a S&W firearm.
The first handgun I ever owned was a Model 36 carried on my ankle (primarily) when I started my LE career up in NYC back in the early 80's. My issued firearm was a 2" Model 15 "Combat Masterpiece".
In the middle to late 80's I transferred to South FL with another federal agency and was first issued a Model 19 to be followed later on by a 6906 semi-auto.
That was pretty much the end of my S&W experience until I got the yen a couple weeks back after firing a buddy's Ruger GP100.
I had always regretted trading my Model 36 back in the early 90's toward another firearm and owning a .357 was an itch I've always wanted to scratch.
It wasn't a terribly easy decision choosing between the GP100 and the 686...but when I saw the 686 Plus (3") I knew I had to have one. Watching the video of Hickok45 shooting one a few years back sealed the deal.
Well, it just arrived a couple days ago and other than being disappointed in how dirty the gun was upon arrival at my FFL, I am pretty stoked about my new purchase.
Naturally, the weather has been monsoon-like since it arrived so I've yet to get it over to my neighbor's property to break it in. (He has a small part of his acreage set aside for plinking.)
Well, that's probably a lot more than you needed to know but hey...that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Wishing you all a happy and safe holiday.
