I’m a new member here and not a huge gun guy but thought I’d give this a shot.
I joined the Indiana State Police as a trooper in 1980 and was issued new in the box a S&W Model 66 .357. Loved the gun as it was my first ever gun to shoot and issued weapon that I did use in a police action shooting.
When we transitioned to the Beretta 92F we had a buy back program and there was a mishap that kept me from getting the gun. Another officer who knew bought it and couldn’t believe I didn’t. Long story the then wife took the money and went on a shopping spree while I was in Oklahoma for a 2wk DRE Training assignment. Needless to say she became an ex-wife!
I’ve gotten ahold of the buyer and learned the gun went to a relative in North Carolina, back to Kokomo, IN and sold to an Indiana trooper but I don’t know who. If memory serves me correctly the serial# was K7200. I’d love to get this gun back with its jeweled hammer and trigger. It would mean so much to have with my uniform, gun belt and other items I’ve collected to enshrine my service. Would I consider another model 66? Probably would though it wouldn’t be quite the same.
That’s why I’m here. Also I retired from the ISP in 2014 with 34yrs of service and came back to service 52 days later within the ISP Capitol Police Section serving at the downtown Indianapolis Complex and government center. This later seevice is entering its eighth year this year.
I’ve worn a uniform all my life from Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, US Navy, Indiana State Police to current Indiana State Capitol Police Section.
