What is your grip preference on Smith & Wesson 3rd Generation. I prefer the straight grip like I have on my 915. The grip seems to feel much better than the curved grip, which feels like it's digging in to my hand when I shoot both my 4006 and 5906. My 4006 has a Hogue grip on it, which I want to swap out for original straight factory grip. Has anyone had problems switching out grips?

I never cared for the Hogue grips on my 3rd generation guns, 4006, 4506, 4526,1006,1076. I like the straight grips but prefer the curved. I also have several pairs of the FBI palm swell grips. I don't see much difference between the curved and palm swell. I think it all depends on what grip fees right in your hand.

I like the straight grip on my 1006, but wanted to preserve it in new condition so I bought a S&W curved grip to try. I like the curved very much and makes the 1006 look like my 5906.

Curved. It mimics the Model 39 grip profile, which for my hand is just about perfection. Any third gen I obtain with the straight grip I take it off and put either the Hogue's or the curved factory grip on it. So yes, that means I have several of the straight ones sitting in a drawer gathering dust. If for some reason I choose to sell one the straight grips will go back on.

A Vote for Hogue Grips ...

I have two semi-autos with factory Hogue grips and I like them. A CS9 and a 1006. I just acquired a 1076 and bought a Hogue grip for it but the frame decocker prevented it's use.

I also have a 5906 that I put rubber Crimson Trace grips on and like that feel. I also added a CT laser grip on my 360PD Airlite, more to absorb the recoil than to get the laser.

I don't have large hands, I just like the grippy feel of the rubber grips. Anybody know how to adapt the Hogue's to my 1076?

I agree with Bald Eagle. Plus, the curved grip seems to fill my grip better & is just more comfortable to me.
