Johnny's in the basement
Mixin' up the medicine
I'm on the pavement
Thinkin' 'bout the guverment

One of the best opening lines ever!

"Bringing it All Back Home" is in the CD player of my car at this moment. His early work is my favorite, and "Blood on the Tracks" is one of my favorite albums of all time.

"This is the story of the Hurricane...
the man the authorities came to blame...
for somethin' that he never done..."

Powerful, classic, unforgettable...

I also really like the Modern Times CD.
But push come to shove - the best thing that Dylan ever did for us -
was give us The Band!

I hear/read this all the time. I agree, he was
a great songwriter. Probably in the top five.
Carole King, Willie Nelson, and Paul Simon are
at least his equal.

Hank Williams, Sr. is the greatest songwriter of
all time. Period.:D

....a couple guys named McCartney and Lennon might have had a small impact on the music world too.;):D:)

Perspective is everything.

I would suggest that George and Ira Gershwin, and a fellow named Cole Porter, made their mark on the musical world as well. :)

I thought that I knew all the Hank, Sr songs.
Then I bought the book of all his lyrics.
Turns out that I only knew about the 10% which have been recorded.
When you are a prolific writer, which Hank was, most of your songs aren't that good.
Then again some of them are great!
And he passed at 29. Hard to image what he could have done if he stayed around longer.

Greatest of All Time? Depends on what online poll you look at and what music you like.:) There are so many greats it is impossible to pick one!

Dylan of course is great as are so many others, his words/lyrics are amazing but I would not consider him the best singer.

If you can watch the Carol King (a music producing "machine")and Joni Mitchell DVDs. Carol wrote so many songs for so many other people to sing it is amazing to see all the work
