The Mrs. and I have been growing fresh herbs and peppers in reclaimed whiskey barrel halves. This year we planted three kinds of peppers; Poblano's, Jalapeño's and some little red ones. I don't know if the little red ones are Thai or Italian or what, but those buggers are nuclear hot!
Putting them in the same planter seems to have been a mistake, since they apparently got cross-pollinated. I'm accustomed to spicy food and can eat raw Jalapeño's that we get at the grocery store, but just a little piece of one of these without seeds or pith is off the charts and made my lips go numb. Poblano's are usually very mild, but these rascals are as hot as store bought jalapeño's.
Has anyone else experienced this from planting pepper varieties too close?
