In my last post where I introduced the Epiphone Junior guitar and the amps I purchased this last week I talked about modding the amps. I took apart one of the two Yamaha amps and was thinking about using as much of the old amp cabinet as possible. After digging around in the garage I found some old 1x10 pine planks that have been cooking in there for about 15 years. I think that is as close to kiln dried as you can get without a kiln. They are straight and not warped in any way. Lots of knots but I can cut those out, as the pieces I will need are max 12 inches long. I had been thinking of grabbing some poplar 1x4's at Home Depot and gluing them together to get the necessary width, but this will do nicely and I don't have to spend the money. If I tried to get a 1x10x 96 inch plank of poplar it is about $125. Since I have plenty of wood I will not use any of the old cabinet, which is made of MDF and particle board. I even found Dad's old Craftsman router when I was cleaning out the garage last month, so I can round the edges nicely.CookedPine.jpgYamahaAmps.jpg

Don't forget the time and cost of going to 3 Home Depots to find 1 straight board.
