Suicide. Apparently he had prostrate cancer but also suffered from depression. Not a household name, I know, but a great guitarist who I saw many times as a long haired kid in the early 70's. RIP

A previous thread, here in the forum, on his passing.

I don't know how I missed this in the news. I guess the family is just speaking out about the details. "Montrose" circa 1973 played Winterland (SF) a lot, first as opening bands and later headlining. I thing Ronnie Montrose was a carpenter working at Winter land before playing there. I think he didn't let Hagar play guitar and I'm glad 'cause the format as it was was perfect. Those two first album were played constantly on our 8 tracks during high school.

That was sad to read to day. His wife said he has suffered from depression and self doubt for a long time. Hard to understand.
RIP Montrose.

R.I.P. Ronnie! I saw him once opening for Van Halen and Journey (the first versions of each band) back in about 1976 and he absolutely blew BOTH of those bands out of the auditorium and those bands were fronted by guitarists Eddie V. and Niel Shon respectively. Check out his version of "Town without Pity" if you can find it. He also played a lot with Van Morrison "back in the day". At least I still have all of that obsolete vinyl to console me.

Yes, was sad to hear of the passing of Ronnie last month. My high school buds and I had a garage band during the late 70s, and Rock Candy was one of our fav tunes to jam on. That whole album rocked. "I just quit my job makin' toothpicks outta logs."

Josh P .... also, RIP Jim Marshall who passed away this week also, at 88.
