Gun blue touch up

I had to fit a new ejector rod to one of my older revolvers. I want to touch up the front of the rod with some type of gun blue. Anyone have experience with the current brands that could offer me some advice. Thanks

I use Van's gun blue, I find it mostly at gun shows. But you might find it on the internet as well......………………………..M*

I'm not sure there is much difference between brands, but I personally use the Brownell's Oxypho Blue. At one time I used the brand .44-40, which was also OK. Clean the metal surface well to remove all grease. I use Acetone. Some warming of the metal helps. There will always be some steel alloys which take the cold bluing better than others.

The front and bevel of the extractor rod are supposed to be bright, leave it alone. Any cold blue you will probably get inside the extractor rod will promote rusting!

Mine came all blued from Numrich. I had to sand it down just a sliver to get it to fit. No where near an expert in S&W revolvers so please advise. Thanks

I use a Q-tip dipped in Van's for small or hard to get to places, works great...………………………………….M*

I also like Brownell's Oxypho blue, but the front bevel should not be blued it is a final fitted part and left bright.

Yes, front bevel bare nekkid..... and another vote for Van's should you need any. It is available online. Shop a bit and you may save a few bucks on a quart.
