I know that Google and the Search key should be my friend, but I must be doing something wrong.

I am trying to find out about the "Collectibles Insurance Services". I thought that it had been recommended and discussed (even by me) in another post.

Who uses them, are their premiums reasonable, and is there a discount for having a safe or alarm system. I thought I remembered that an inventory or list of serial numbers was not required by them. Also, with the rising costs associated with grips, vintage holsters, etc., are these covered within your firearm policy or do you have to have separate policies? Any information or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I was looking for another thread (which I didn't find) when I stumbled onto this one-------just my luck!

I have done business with Collectibles forever---or a long time. That pretty much says it all. Yes, they give credits for safes/alarm systems. I believe (but do not know) serial numbers are not required-----but I listed mine anyway. I also believe (but do not know) you have the option of buying "blanket" coverage, which is to say a total amount of protection without assigning values to individual pieces. I am about to explore/confirm that option, because keeping up with the value of individual pieces is becoming a large pain in the butt----especially in in this market.

No appraisal is required----you set the value(s). That said, know this: If/when you suffer a loss, you will be obliged to provide a "proof of loss"----simply stated, a list of the items lost, documentation of the condition, and documentation of the values. Furnish a good "proof of loss", and you'll receive a check by return mail. Anything less will result in a hassle which will greatly accelerate the acquisition of gray hair, or the loss of any hair remaining.

As is the case with GA1911, I too was in the risk management/insurance business for a looooooooooooong time. Collectibles is good people!

Let me know if you want address/phone/anything else.

One word of wisdom: Do not, under ANY circumstances, insure your guns on your homeowners contract. The last time I knew anything about it, the cost was almost exactly ten times that available from the specialty houses----and the coverage provided is essentially the same.

I just insured mine with my homeowners. I'm not going to say what the amount of coverage was but the additional cost was reasonable for the total value. I think it depends on your insurance company and if you have your homeowners and auto with them. There's a deductible but I believe the NRA will cover anything your homeowners doesn't up to $2500 if you are a member.
