There is a thread on this topic that my browser will not open. I also tried using grease as a keyword on the advanced search w/o any luck.

If you can point to earlier threads on this topic that would be helpful.

When or where would I want to use gun grease? Of course the next question would be what brand of gun grease or other grease to use?

Thanks in advance

can-o-worms is now open!

Break Free CLP for oil applications.
White lithium grease as an assembly aid for small parts.
* I also use "Rifle Grease" in 2cc vials from the Viet Nam era.

That's it!

:D

I know the thread your talking about but can't recall the title.I have stored guns for over 5 years using only Remington Oil with no damage to the guns.I would imagine that grease would be even better for long term storage.I only use grease to lube my slides on my 1911's.

In general, the average consensus is grease for what slides and oil for what rotates. Extreme cold favors graphite, non petroleum (-40).
Brands: Dozens to choose from.
Special considerations: dust, high or low humidity, type of powder/bullet lube, range or carry, how much you need to shoot before cleaning, etc.

For various things, I use tetra, Brownells action grease, and Rem oil routinely. For a year in the Arctic, I degreased the guns and used graphite.
A full list of good gun lubricants runs into the dozens, if not hundreds.

Grease for the moving parts of my M1 Garand as well as for the sliding points of contact on semi-auto pistols.
Oil everywhere else.

you might look at getting some wheel bearing grease at your local auto parts store.... a jar of it will last you & your kids lifetimes. plus most of their friends needs too...... It is good to plus 900 degrees F....... to below 100 degrees F, and absolutely repels/hates water............plus it is dern cheap...... I think I gave $6.00 for my current jar in 1994, and I've used it to repack the bearings on the front of our old Allis tractor & the ones on my 4X4 too..... plus I've given away 3 small pill bottles of it to friends to use on their firearms plus all of ours since then & over 1/2 of it remains.. Grease sold for firearms is always three to 5 times higher in price... and almost all of it is repackaged from bulk wheel bearing grease..........Use grease, BreakfreeCLP and graphite on your firearms/sporting goods, as stated above..the boys said it well.

Wow...quick and knowledgeable answers.

I have what I need now.

Thanks to all the respondents.
