The other day I was out shooting my S&W .22A with Remington Golden Bullet Bulk, Not what I usually use because bulk doesnt normally run well.
This day was going surprisingly well with this bulk stuff untill, shooting semi-rapid (1 shot per 1-2 seconds) when i got to the second to the last round it poped LOUDLY, very little recoil, and my left thumb hurt(had gloves on so no damage to the skin)
I inspected the pistol and saw there was an expended shell stovepiped in the slide. Opened the slide and the case, where the rim meets the straight of the case was blown open.
I cant explain what happened. This was the only problem I had that day out of almost 200 rounds.
The guy I was out with was shooting the same ammo, different box, from his Beretta Neos and said he felt some increased recoil a couple times, amost like there were some "hot" loads in the mix.
We also shot this ammo from a 10/22 and a Remington 597 with no problems.
Im thinking it was a bad round. it looked like it split open where the primer was struck.
"Cooked off" before fully chambered? I doubt it, it was hot that day it wasnt THAT hot, nor was the gun.
Any ideas?
Yes, the .22A did have a recall a while back and mine was sent in and the proper repairs were done. Or where they?
