I have a Browning Prosteel Gun Safe that I purchased new in the mid to late 80's It works just as good now as it did when new Nothing has ever been done to it & nothing has ever been lubricated Is there something I should do & what should I lubricate & with what? I am not crazy about calling a locksmith & don't like strangers in My house.

In my old agency we had one of those; plus I was responsible for changing combinations on about 90 other safes annually. As far as I can remember, all of them were S&G locks. I had to partially disassemble the locks to change them. They were lightly greased with what looked like wheel bearing grease. We never had trouble with any of them other than one that was about 70 years old.

My first gun safe was a 3000 pound monster almost as old, and it was working fine when I left it behind. My present one was bought in '94 and is still working well. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Locksmiths are bonded. At some point you've got to trust somebody.

if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

^^^ What he said!^^^

Whatever ya do , DO NOT spray WD-40 into barrel locks! Or any locks! Or use it on guns!

It gums up with every spritz. A friend found out the hard way.

Perhaps some silicone spray on the hinges every few years.

Best maintenance is to add guns frequently.

Actually, that doesn't really work. It just ends up with you needing another new safe. I kept my old Browning and just added a new, fatter friend right next to it. But then using that same theory, over a few years it was full, too. So I realized the error of my ways and gave both of my safes away to my sons. They can worry about it now. Neither can afford many guns these days. Oh, my guns? None left after the boating accident. Search the joint if you want, you'll only find the carry piece and a ratty old shotgun.

I've had one of the 13 Gun ProSteel Brownings for 21 years and it still works flawlessly.
