Serial K4998XX Can someone tell me production date?

Found an 18-2, finish is somewhat worn (mostly on barrel, cylinder and turn line). Included is a steel trigger shoe.

Mechanically perfect. He had it tagged for $550.00. I got it O.T.D. $475.00

SA pull: 3-1/4 #

SA pull: 11#

Any good shooter grade model 18
for under $500, clams is a decent deal.

Take the trigger shoe off and throw it into a box.
You do not need a trigger shoe unless you are taking your gun for a walk. :)

Clean it, shoot it, and enjoy it.

Congratulations on a nice find. Perfect companion when out for a stroll or hike through the woods. In my area, Model 18s seem to be harder to locate than Model 17s. For my education, would a 1962 era 18-2 originally come with magna stocks like the ones on your gun or would it have come with diamond magnas?

Model 18s are great shooters. Being a little cosmeticly challenged won`t hurt it a bit.
Hope you enjoy your find.

It should have diamond magnas like this one.
This is also a 1962 18-2. Had pearl grips when I got it. Got these grips off of e-bay. As long as you don`t insist on mint condition ones, they are not too high priced. Got this set for $34.

Not a bad price for an 18. "Finished challenged" guns are my favorite kind, they get carried and shot a lot with no worries about damage, etc.

I got a pawn shop Model 14 for $300, had it a few years, and traded it straight-up for a pretty nice 18-2 about a month back. Being primarily a 4" K-frame .38 SPL shooter, I wanted to practice cheaply without having to spend hours reloading. Until just recently, I had no idea that these were so sought after. I guess I did well.

The 18-2 is one great revolver.

I picked up my model #18-2 , with diamond magna's, for $425 at a local show. no box or papers. It is the best shooting .22 revolver that I have ever had. including several # 17 Smiths.

Smith model 17 vs 18

I'm just curious but why would a model 18 be more accurate than a 17 or vice versa. Does it just depend on the indivdual gun?

I don't think they are but I do think most people can shoot them more accurately than the long barrel 17. I know I can, they don't wobble around as much when I'm trying to get that shot off. But some shoot long barrels better. It's an individual thing.
