I went early to the local gun show. I walked out with this S&W 940 (9mm) for $500. Did I do OK? Gun came with moon clips and the rubber grips. What grips are original?

Nice find! My 940 came with wood grips similar to the set on yours. I bought a set of Pacs anduse them most of the time.

You did VERY well. Nice catch. I saw one sell last week at a gun show for $650.00.

I've only had my 940-1 a short while but I'm very pleased with the little gun. I have two good friends "in line" for the gun when/if I let it go. I told both not to hold their breath.

My gun came with the Uncle Mike's rubber boot grips which, IIRC from the S&W catalog, were the original grips.

Enjoy!

dan :)

Wow! What a nice gun, and the price seems great as well! Nice score.

$500 is a great deal on a 940..
The 940s came factory with the black rubber Uncle Mikes full size combat grips..
The moon clips you have there are the ones Ranch Products sell for the Ruger SP101 9mm & 940s.. they have a larger ratchet star on the Ruger than the J Frame S&W, Either will work & you might even have some that are .040" thick instead of .035"..
If you have ammo sticking problems email me as the hones are ready for the task..
Good Score jimmyjoe

===================================

Not to rain on anyone's parade but if these Blue Book values are good; shouldn't this gun have been more in the 400 to 450 range and even in the 300 to 350 range to be a "Nice score"?

I'm asking because I'm trying to see if the Blue Book values is of any "value".

It does look like a nice gun.

The blue book is worthless for most purchases as there going by the MSRP of the gun as it was new..
You can't find a used 640 for under $500 around here & would bet just about anywere, The 940s are rare & discontinued plus they are slick as the early mid 90s guns mostly are..
You'll find that the 940s & 547 S&W 9mm revolvers bring more money than a 640 or M10.. I wish this wasn't true but it is..
Blue books are a good sorce for a dealer to get guns cheaper from sellers/traders..

S & W model 940 in California

I would like to purchase a 940. It has to be in Ca. as it is no longer on the CA. list. Anyone know where I can get one?

940's are a low production and discontinued gun. Are very unique and desirable. $500 is a steal. You may find the recoil a little stiff, Plus P loads aren't fun to shoot. Well fitting grips help. If you get sticking cases with factory ammo, take Headknocker up on his offer. It will fix the problem of roughness inside the chambers.

I scored my 640-1/357 LNIB, plus two holsters & 50 rds of 38 SPL for $350 this spring...

I saw a guy yesterday who wanted to sell his Model 60 No dash at a local gun store, They would only give him $250..
Then a guy inside there offered him $300 & they went outside to make the deal..
Good prices CAN HAPPEN but are not the norm..
That M60 would sell for $550 at the gunshows & was mint..

Mine came with the Uncle Mikes Full length but I dressed mine up abit. I would Love to find a 1 7/8" to add to my 3"

Nice score. I have always been intrigued by the 9mm and .45acp wheelguns.
