New(ish) promoter, RK Shows, with their second show in the area. Last time was at one of the city's recreation centers, this time is at the new Drury Conference Center. Not been in the conference center yet, so don't know if it's bigger or smaller. I went to their first show, in September, and it wasn't awful.
The problem around here is that you're always seeing the same dozen or so regulars. Historically, there are two different gun show promoters. The oldest, run by a CGPD veteran, hosts quarterly shows in a smallish venue, and is just good for seeing people. There's the Garand guy, the stun gun guy, the knife guy, the magazine guy, the four "Personal Collection" guys, the guy who beat me out of a very nice Model 12 at an estate auction in Poplar Bluff a couple years ago, you get the idea. I know I've seen the same S&W 40 for $899 at this show for at least ten years.
The other, run by another local fella, is much bigger, held in the biggest building in the area, and the floor is usually full. You still see the same dozen players, along with another two dozen regulars who come to this semiannual show but not the other one. The additional vendors at this show are usually good for black rifles and jerky.
The RK Show in September had some of the same old regulars, and the others were black rifle people I hadn't seen before. Looked like they drew several dealers from St. Louis, but nothing spectacular.
Headed north this morning. I'll let you know . . .
