Went to the gun show in Richmond, Va. (Showplace) this morning and was amazed at the prices people are asking for Smith and Wesson, Colts or any quality firearm. Model 64's at $650, any desirable "N" frame revolver was over $1000, even lame guns like Llama's and German RG's were $300. Not a deal in the house, save one:

I bought this Romanian Military Training rifle from a guy walking around for $50. In 1995 I bought four of these rifles when they first imported them, if you bought four they were $55 each. Not bad rifles, light, fairly accurate, a good truck or canoeing gun.

Another thing I noted was that ammuntion prices have risen about 25% since the election, I see no reason for it other than mass hysteria. Three months ago a 1000 round case of PMC .223 was $310, .31 cents per round, now it's $420, .42 cents per round. I'm sure this will pass like it did after the last election, but it took two years before ammuntion and reloading components were plentiful and affordable.

I sold a gun I was toting around, then went to a pawn shop where I had been working a deal for a 1975 vintage 4" Model 29-2, got it and went to the range. Both revolver and Romanian rifle shot well, got a good deal on both of them, so I am a happy camper.

If you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for the 29? I have the ability to buy one just like it, but with the right grips. Want to know how good or bad my prospective deal is.

Gun show in Vallejo CA. today and tommorrow. I'm gonna go look and see what I can find. wish me luck. SteveO

Nipster,

I paid $465 for it after quite a lot of negotiation, probably a little high for this revolver as it has a good bit of finish wear, and lame Hogue grips. I'm guessing it's going to take a good bit of cash to round up the right grips for it.

But, it is a good shooter, and it will only get more finish wear as I intend to carry it a lot!

Looks pretty good from the picture, but sometimes in person I know they can look worse. I posted in another thread recently that the last 4" 29-2 I saw was MUCH, MUCH worse than yours and was listed at $700 and they would not budge.

I dont think you overpaid for it!

My wife and I started to go today, but we figured there would be a big crowd and it would be a hassle with her wheelchair. I never buy guns or anything but it's fun to look around. There is a fellow I see at the shows from time to time who sells old paperback books. I'll pick up four or five of those from him if he has anything interesting.

Maybe we'll go tomorrow after church...something to do.
