Used to be I would not miss one, ever! Got up early, showered and shaved, even went and got a handful of Franklins out of the safe. Started thinking about the 100 mile round trip, the traffic, the expected crowd, the difficulty finding parking, the high prices, the probability that I wouldn't see anything that I want that I don't already have,etc.,etc. Got all bummed out. Still am for that matter. :(

p.s. Maybe tomorrow.

Fat tom,
Don't regret it, I'm skipping one of the dozen local shows that is only 20 minutes from my home. Just don't want to deal with all the people looking for ammo and plastic just to find tables full of the same. Only so much real estate at the shows and most of it is being filled with stuff I could give a rats behind about.
I will wait for the local collectors show that requires me to drive the hour or so North, it will be a better investment of my time.

Me also. This WE there's a show half a hour from me. I'm staying away. The prices are way out of line. Another forum member lives down the road from me. He makes stag grips for 1911's and him and and another friend that makes/sells knives are setting up at that show. There supposed to call me if they see any guns I'm looking for. It's like I got proxy lookers. Another issue is I got bills and the SS eagle don't **** till another 2 weeks.

fat tom I feel ya, I skipped the Fort Worth show in Feb. and probably will skip the Dallas Gun show as well. There's a show this weekend (lesser than the Ft W but still large) that I'm skipping right now. Just don't have the heart to go look at stuff that is over priced and not what I want anyway.

I feel fortunate in that we have four or so major gun shows that rotate through the DFW area so there is a gun show almost every month to go to if one was so inclined. Granted its primarily the same vendors and same inventory at each, but I like finding the little independent guy and looking at his inventory. Heck I like seeing the guys carrying their rifle slung over their shoulder or a pistol in their hand that they're trying to sell while at the show.

Quick story: years ago when I was first with the current Mrs we went to a show, saw a guy desperately trying to sell a sweet Colt pistol for $300 cash. We talked to him and his wife (they had a new born with them and thats why they were selling off his pistols for $$) and didn't buy the Colt. After we left the show me and the Mrs were talking and she said how she wished she had the cash to buy the pistol. I almost cried as I said I had the cash on me and wanted to buy it but was afraid that since we were so new in our relationship she would have thought I was a nut for doing so. To this day we have a rule, see one, want it, have the cash........BUY IT!

There are 3 gunshows that come to my area so that means that I have one I could go to just about every month. But like the OP I have backed way off of my attendance and for just about the same reasons. I really do expect things to start getting back to normal, at least around here, pretty soon now. I'll be interested to see if today's gun show gives any indication that this is starting to happen.

Gun shows are no different from Flea Markets.

Flea Markets 40 years ago, great items, great prices and small crowds.

The internet has educated many people, great items, high prices and mobbed.

The fun in the sun no longer exists.:(

I've found very little of interest in gunshows in recent years. Mainly over priced S&W revolvers in poor shape and few at that. Since those are my main interest I've been disappointed.
I've been skipping those now as they're over crowded and likely the same over priced stuff.
Once things settle down I may go again just to see if things have changed.

Well,F.T.,I drove over to Columbia today from D.C. to the show you are referring to.If you don't go,you won't miss much.About the same as always.

Didn't go to any of the 4 "local" gun shows this year. I honestly don't think I missed much........especially in the last couple months.

I havent gone to one since the craziness started. Even before tge election it was getting annoying. There is one tomorrow i might go its not too far but im not sure i want to spend time and money just to wake up early, deal with crowds, the gunshow rhetoric, the Bubbas and have nothing to show for it

I went to the one about mile from my house and got lucky in getting a parking place right away while other cars circled and circled the lot. That was the last bit of luck. The place was a madhouse and the only thing I saw that wasn't way overpriced was some IMR powder. On a positive note, things didn't seem quite as overpriced as they were back before Christmas or maybe I'm just getting used to sticker shock. Saw a very few S&W's but even the private dealers had those overpriced.

Went to a show in Crown Point, IN, this morning and found a Shield 9mm for $6 over MSRP. Thought that was a decent price, all things considered, and grabbed it up. Last weekend a local big store gun shop was asking $599 just to get on a list with a 3 month wait period. Said they were gonna mark it up to $612 after the weekend. For a Shield!?! Some call that capitalism, I call it price gouging.

I prefer shop armslist and Buds than attend gun shows anymore.

FT,

I feel the same way.
Used to be a gas...now whacked out prices, crowds, etc..
Don't NEED anything anyway.

Example:
Look for a clean 95% or better boxed Browning Hi Power.
Cruised the net a day or so ago and was surprised at the cost.
