I've owned a heck of a lot of guns over the last many decades and many I have sold or traded and didn't miss one bit. But several guns I have gotten rid of and later figured out that I absolutely must get another one like it. After all these years I have come to the conclusion that I will never again be without a 1911 .45 acp. The same goes for a 4" M-19 .357 magnum and a quality 20 gauge SxS shotgun, and a small .380 auto Kel Tec or Ruger LCP will also be around to slip in a pocket. These may not be the most practical, or best "all around" guns they are just the ones that meet my needs and I enjoy owning and shooting.

I'm kind of surprised there are not a lot more "must have" guns on the list, and I would give an honorable mention to a Ruger 10-22, Remington 870 shotgun, and a S&W airweight J-frame, but I don't feel as strongly as these as the above mentioned guns.

My grandfather's Colt Woodsman .22, my Ithaca Deerslayer 16 gauge, my 29 .44 Magnum, my grandfather's .45 caliber T/C Seneca.

My S&W 28-2 4". A Mod 34 2". Colt 70 Govt. Beretta 92 Compact. Colt AR. Ruger 10-22. Jarrett 270. Brng A5.

My 15-2 which I bought new in 1963 for $67.50 OTD. Foolishly, I sold it in the 70's. I have replaced it with another one in blue and one in nickle. Also have added a 2" blue and one in nickle, plus a M67, but none will ever replace that old 15-2 which was my first S&W purchase.

Model 15's REIGN! Now, I am looking for a pre 15 and a heritage series. Let me know if you have either for sale.

Over the last 40 or 50 years I've found that I can't seem to live without a M1911. I've owned a number of them and every time I let one go, I'll have to have another within a month or two.:D
I think the current longest owned gun I have is a .455 Triple Lock that I have traced back to the original owner. (A doctor with the RAMC, WW1). Other than it I don't think I have anything that I've owned for more than 20 or so years.
I do have a few now that I will never sell. (My heirs will have to do it.;))

My MUST HAVES include, but are not limited to the following.
For Fun - Ruger 22/45 with a Tactical Solutions uppper.
For Serious - 1066, 6904, Colt Detectives.
For Home - Mossberg 500.
For Long Distance - Weatherby Mk V in 300 WM.

Shrug. I made sure that I had ARs for everyone. Now the youngest is starting to show signs of left handedness so he'll need a lefty gun. (He's six months old, but he can grow into an M4 clone.) Just my luck. That's just for utility, the same as having a flashlight for everyone. Nothing overly sentimental involved.

I've got a strange personal fondness for blue collar working man's rifles of years past. Thus I like my old Mossberg 800AM and some sporterized military rifles, as well as my Marlin .30-30 just to have around.

My M1 Garand will always be near. It still goes to deer camp each year, not as my primary deer rifle any more but it usually takes at least a short walk with me.

Getting less sentimental about the guns which is probably a good thing from my standpoint.

Got a couple of work guns (Ruger Service/Security Sixes) and a badge to go with each; they served me faithfully and well. Still do. A beater Ruger Std. Auto .22 and M18 I like, and a 442 for always.

The herd has benefited from almost 50 years of selective breeding, so there isn't much in it that hasn't earned its place. Some could claim I over did it, and they might be right.

The following will always be in my vault:

Mod. 29 .44 mag.

A good quality 30-06 bolt

Mod. 17

Mod 39-2

12ga. hunting gun and at least one trap gun

22 rifle. 10/22 currently.
1911 a1 custom build on an Essex for the moment.
12 or 20 ga. Win. mod. 12 currently.

I do own a lot of revolvers. But the one's I never sell are: My Smith and Wesson 681, New model 3, Schofield second model and the revolver they have to break out of my dead hands is the 3th model Fosbery.

Sir, other than family heirlooms, my "must have" guns are a Government Model 1911A1 in .45 and an M1 Garand. I should probably also have a .22 rifle, but haven't got one currently.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

- 9mm semi-auto pistol
- .38/.357 J-frame 2 inch barrel

While I have and enjoy others, with these guns I can survive.
