Been after this puppy for a while. Problem is, every one I found was either $All.The.Money$ or had a shaved cylinder.

Today God smiled on me and I had the cash, and the gun I wanted was right there. Wearing the wrong grips. As is protocol.

Going to need a cleaning, but I rummaged around in the grip vault and came up with a better, but still not correct pair, to slap on it.

My name is of course Modified, and as is also protocol I can't buy an entirely standard gun:

This is the modification I wanted though. It's so nicely done, and doesn't preclude the gun from shooting .455, simply allows you to also chamber and shoot .45 LC. Without destroying any markings.

Fun serial numbers on these limey contract guns;

I didn't realize until looking at your selfie how young you are! Great score and one of the 1914(?) run of 455 TLs fro export.

Three years old as of June!

He had an absolute blast at the gunshow.

To answer a private message; I paid $1100. It's an OK price. These are certainly the most affordable of all triple locks. You can pick up a high condition un-modified gun in the $1500-2000 range that I can see. Personally I am a big fan of the .45LC conversion and have long appreciated the attention to detail involved in doing it. I also love how it doesn't really affect any of the good things about the gun. If ever there was a modification that was completely inoffensive and good, this is it.

The gunshow has been really one of my personal bests in terms of buying neat things, at least over the past probably 5 years.

I grabbed a few sets of grips also, to fuel the Grip Monster that lives deep in my soul. Sadly none were S&W, but sometimes I just can't resist them anyway:

One pair of dark stained maple I think, just gorgeous. The inlayed medallion is elephant ivory.

The other pair is jigged bone with a rather good angry cow carving. I couldn't resist the pair of them for $150.

Then later I found this pair of "some kind of horn" grips that had come off of a 1911:

Dang nice grain and Schreger lines on this some kinda horn:

(Absolutely couldn't get my wallet out fast enough for these $125 "horn" grips)

Whenever I see one of these shown here I think of that paragraph in “Sixguns By Keith” where a bear charged one of Keith’s friends and another guy on horseback “pulled his glove off with his teeth”, drew his S&W with heavy .455 hand loads and killed the bear instantly. One of endless exciting anecdotes in that book.

Great post and pictures Mr. Modified!

What a fine revolver and it has such a great modification. To top it all off, no crybaby can gripe that you shouldn't have altered "a piece of history" since it was already done by someone else.

Edgar Dopp made that shot . Not sure who sunk the axe into his skull when he dropped with his head on a stump.

Wow! I see that Bison over there on that far tree line, at about 750 yards, I think you can hit him!

Moo!

Honestly I should do a sell off. My life situation is not really going to mean much related to guns for some time now sadly. I'll let you know first if those go on the chopping block.

Uh…count another interested if you’re doing a sell off sir. Love your modified guns!
