Hi:
I realize this will vary from gunsmith to gunsmith and different locales:
1. What is the normal hourly fee gunsmiths in your area charge?
2. Having a Model 19 barrel changed I should expect to pay ??

$50 / hour with $50 minimum.

$300 minimum if you tried to fix it before you brought it to him.

Mine charges $50/hr

But flat rates alot of his jobs. Little far for you to drive..about 140 miles.

In this economy, you can always negotiate...:)

In my experience the really great GunSmith's don't have to haggle and frequently they aren't in a hurry to get it done. Your gun goes through the waiting line up and then through the process. The ones that are highly sought are worth the wait and usually offer a fair price. It is what it is.

Years ago, a fellow police officer brought me an old revolver that wouldn't fire. I believe it was an H&R.

I looked at it, took my little S&W SAT aka screwdriver, out of my shirt pocket, turned a screw and the revolver was fixed. He asked me "How much?" and I told him $5.

He looked at me and said, "$5!!!?"

I took a piece of paper and broke it down for him:

Turning the screw................. $ .50

Know WHICH screw to turn... $4.50

Total................................. $5.00

He grinned and handed me a five.
