Gunsmith for Model 39-2?

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum (see my intro from earlier) and just came into possession of a Model 39-2 (serial #A1878xx) in good condition (finish is about 92%). It appears to have spent a lot of time in the holster but I can't tell for sure how much its been shot. The action/slide is very smooth, no slop anywhere...very tight...and the bore is just perfect.

However, I would like to see about getting it taken apart & inspected (possibly replace some critical parts) by someone who really knows their 'stuff' when it comes to these older generation pistols so that I can feel confident about possibly carrying it. Also, I'd like to see about getting some of the light scratches polished out and have it refinished and having newer, more modern sights (like Novak or Heine). I'm not so much concerned about keeping it in original condition but would like to really use it. I really like the way it shoots and love the ergonomics.

I'm sort of seeing this as a project gun but I don't want to take a chance on messing it up myself.

Any thoughts on who might be able to handle this? Would Smith & Wesson be a good candidate for some of this work?

Thanks,

Greg

I would recommend the factory, too, but they probably won't do the sight work.

Unless there is a safety or function problem, I would leave it as is. It is not like a 1911 that has a wealth of accessories. Just my opinion...
