I've decided that I need professional help to repair my K22 S&W revolver. I've found a local smith and before I leave my revolver with him I'd like to evaluate his qualifications. What should I look for or ask? Schools? Certificates? Diplomas? Or would I be better off sending it back to S&W? I just hate dealing with the personnel at the UPS hub. Thanks, Bill

In your shoes I'd find a friendly local FFL to send the gun back to S&W...much cheaper than getting raped by UPS or FedEx because their employees steal guns (which IS the reason they insist all handguns go Overnight at some $70+ or so a pop) Fords is also close to you but I don't know if they do repairs. You could always ask them...Google Fords Refinishing.

To find a qualified gunsmith, check the American Pistolsmith Guild's roster for a gunsmith in your area.
