Does anyone know if the 922 was ever made as single action only? I have one in mint condition on layaway put it seems to be single action only. It has red plastic grips and either a 5.5 or 6 inch barrel. Just want to make sure its not broken. The gun guide doesn't list a 922 as single action only. Strange?

I don't think so but you can write a book about what I don't know.
This 649 is sa or double action as is my Sidekick and Sportsman.

Double Action

It may just need a good cleaning and lubrication.
I had a H&R 732 for six months, assumed it was a single action, then I gave it a clean up after that it became double action. :)

If I remember correctly, the 199 and the 777 were single action 922s. The 196 was also SA, but it was a six-shot. If it's really one of those, the trigger should look like it, which is to say that it would be closer to vertical and much closer to the rear of the trigger guard. The 777 is marked Ultra Sportsman. Not sure about the others.

If you don't want a SA, perhaps we could arrange for me to take it off your hands.

I like this answer. I looked at one at Cabelas last year. I could get it to cock sometimes but it usually would not hold in cocked position. Double action worked fine. They took the gun to their "smith" in the back and he pronounced it DA only. I'm pretty sure that was baloney as I could hold the sear at the rear of the trigger guard and it cocked. I believe it would have work DA and SA if lubed and cleaned.
