Had a fair dose of gentle rain about 0600-0730 and another short burst around 1430. Those were just the warm up band. Starting about 1730 our side of the Vegas got pummeled by one thunderstorm after another. Actually, it was more like repeated chunks of heavy rain embedded in the gentler stuff, accompanied by thunder and lightning. Pick a preferred adjective to describe the heavy periods: torrential, raining cats and dogs, coming down like stair rods, they all applied. The only saving grace was that there was little wind at my house to drive water under doors as I've seen in Vegas in past years. Just guessing, but I suspect we got between 1.5" and 2.0" of rain in a couple of hours. Mr Weatherbloke opined that so much rain was coming down that there would be no moisture left for storms tomorrow. We shall see.
As many will know, lots of rain in a short space of time is bad news in the desert, I'm sure you will see lots of flood videos on the TV news Saturday morning. At our house we had a different problem. The soil is pretty shallow and you hit caliche (nature's concrete) in about 8 inches. Stepped out back at about 1930 to discover I had a new environment for a back yard, one better suited to alligators rather than desert critters. At least I won't have to use my sprinklers for a bit.
Apologies for the picture quality. Shots made at very high ISO without a flash.
