1977 shows 38k miles but I think this is the second time around (238k)
suddenly stopped shifting out of first gear (C4 automatic) this is the original tran and has never been rebuilt. It has a shift kit and has been serviced often with a giant auxillary cooler. You sure can't beat the old cast iron gear driven transfer case, but heavy to take out!

My '71 came with a three speed. I got tired of it sticking in second gear, so I replaced it with an NP435. Now I just need to rebuild the old worn out 302....

Sounds like no fun whatsoever to me. I hate working underneath cars.

Those old Ford trannys are tough. I have a 1978 4x4 van with a C6/NP205 combo. I hate having to drop that combo, all metal and very heavy.

You can't beat the older Fords for longevity and durability. I've a 2005 F-150. Rear diff needed new bearings at 60k and needs them again at 118k, way out of warranty. And don't get me started on the two-piece sparkplugs.

I had a '77 F-150 4x4 short bed. 351 M engine & 4 speed tranny. Talk about heavy, everything on that truck was heavy. Cast iron tranny & transfer case. Lost the clutch & had it replaced by a mechanic. He sure earned his salt on that job.

here is an older photo, my first one posted here! I have owned a four whell drive since 1970, a toyota Fj40 land cruiser. This is my second bronco, my first was a 1973. This one was my best buddy's, I bought it from him it and later sold it to a co-worker with first right of refusal and bought it back not running for more $ than I sold it for.
It needs paint but has new a 5.0 fuel injected engine, a detroit locker and goes anywhere.
Any member wanted to fuel inject an old ford, I can make a EFI wiring harness for you, thats what I used to do as a business. Pm me.

I loved those model broncos. I had one with a 289 and three speed manual shift.

Got the transmission rebuilt (rebuilder said it was indeed original) and installed it last weekend, worked yesterday and today revamping the fuel (injection) delivery system as well as the exhaust system and this afternoon took it for a test drive. I have owned an early bronco since 1973 and it sure feels great to have the ol girl up to snuff again. The two doggies were barking like crazy wanting to go out back forty again, so I guess we will have to take them tomorrow morning.

I have a 79 model. Power steering pump just went out on it so that's the next project. That and fixing the trailer hitch.

Anoblefox, nice early Bronco you have there sir. I'm glad you have her roadworthy again. I love the Ford Bronco and have owned two, a '78 and a '79, and I regret selling both of them. I am preparing to buy an '88 with a beefed up 351 Cleveland for a ridiculously low price that has been sitting for two years. I'm preparing for it by accumulating several Bronco parts books and a shop manual. I'll be happy to have a Bronco back in the family.
