I bought a 14-3 the other day. Serial #6k47xxx. It is a S/A,either from the factory or after the fact. My question is..it has REALLY got a hair trigger. Maybe somebody set it up for serious targets but once cocked you can apply a little,(Very little) pressure to the back of the hammer and it releases. Is that normal or should I have a pro look at it. Sorry, still trying to figure out the picture thingy.

Not normal, unsafe, needs fixing. See a gunsmith. Some folks would fix this themselves with a new hammer, but I'm not sure whether the SA-only feature introduces complications.

"Pushing off" like that is a safety hazard, and should be repaired by a competent gunsmith.

Definitely not normal. IF the rest of the lockwork hasn't been tampered with, the gun SHOULD NOT discharge if the hammer is pushed off and the trigger is not held to the rear. However, since that condition is not right, there is no telling what else might be wrong, such as cut springs. I have target pistols with a trigger pull in the range of one ounce, but for a K-frameI would not reccomend a single-action of less than two pounds minimum.

Model 14 SAs

The Model 14 SAs are factory-made from 1961-1982, somewhat rare, and worth a slight premium. Internal parts were deleted from the standard M-14 to make them SA (SCSW). However, I strongly agree that the mechanical issues with the hammer push off and hair trigger definitely need to be addressed by a professional-very dangerous!

TO RED9...Thanks and thanks to the other responders. I didn't think about whether the piece would fire if pushed off without holding the trigger. I guess the only true test would be to try it,but I think I will just take it to a pro. By the way, where in Virginia are you? I was born and raised in Richmond, moved to Florida for 20 years, then moved back to Mathews, Va. for 7 years and now I am back in Florida.
