<start rant>

I was told Sports Clips no longer honors the Veteran's discount card I have been using 5 years. I was told this when I presented it along with my payment, by the manager. Instead, she said the offered a free upgrade to the MVP package. I didn't want that.

I asked if they offered any veterans discounts? Yes she said. Just show your VFW membership card. I said I am not a member of the VFW but my driver's license shows my veterans status. Not good enough. I guess she doesn't realize all veterans are not VFW members. She did not even offer to honor it this time, with an apology that she would not be able to going forward. Poor business acumen and either ignorance or corporate disrespect for veterans.

They also recently raised their prices. They have probably seen the last of my business.

TGF Haircutters has $12 Tuesdays. Men's haircuts are $12 each and every Tuesday, veteran or not. I think their regular price is $18. I'm not sure because I always go on a Tuesday. I pay $12, and tip $2. Women veterans get a deal on Wednesdays.

Sometimes it just feels good to tell somebody "you wuz done wrong". I understand, and agree, it's poor business. I would not be happy going back there myself. I found a small out of the way barber that charged me $10 bucks for a haircut, maybe 15 years ago. He told me about 3 years ago that he was going to have to go up $2 bucks, next time. I think paying $12 bucks for a haircut and a beard trimming (if needed) and a $2 dollar tip is fair. So I keep going back. He rents the other 3 chairs out to barbers that come and go, but they also do good work. I'm not picky about my haircuts like some folks are, but I do want to be treated fair, and you got a bum deal there. I'd be looking around for another barber too.

Marty and Matt at Sonner's barbershop here in Hillsboro has been giving for years and remains at $9.00 for a regular cut.
While sitting in the chair, mumble any question and it will be answered, like it or not.

I will admit to having mixed feeling about military/veteran and even senior discounts.
At the winery, we give 10% but don't have signage to that effect. We immediately offer it to customers wearing ensignia like Navy ballcaps and such. Sometimes customers will ask. That puts you in a tough spot. Asking for ID seems rude, like you don't believe the customer is a vet. Don't think there's anyone so low as to ask for a military discount when they're not really military? Guess again. Issue our own ID cards?... "gee I seem to have forgotten my card"...etc. etc....

I get the most expensive haircuts imaginably. My haircuts have cost me several houses, and multiply automobiles. But I get to sleep with my barber. She snores a bit though.

LOL good one. At first I started to think man this guy is stuck up about his hair cuts LOL Until I read the I get to sleep with my barber part LOL.

I'll cut your hair for free.
I should tell you that once I clipped a poodle.
He was so embarrassed that he hid in a closet for 6 weeks until it grew out.

$14 for a cut here but I'm more worried about who is going to cut my hair when my barber and friend quits! Been going to him for 37 years. Guess I need to go bald before he hangs up the clippers. Vets should get a discount.

I found a cut that I like. I can't find anyone who can do it right. I ended up with my GF doing the main part and me finishing up. Another DIY project I didn't want or need, but now I get haircuts I like for a little time and no money. Maybe you could do the same.
