Harrington & Richardson U.S.R.A. Model

What is this? More details please!

This is a U.S.R.A. Single Shot Pistol", the U.S.R.A Model.

Built production 1928 ended in 1941 about 3300 pistols were produced. H and R hired Walter F. Roper (the grip guy), mechanical engineer and an expert pistol shot. He designed this series of pistol variations (this is a very late model). Today they are considered the finest single shot firearm ever built.

Moose,

One of the things really great about these - they are not mainstream and very affordable. Big

Beautiful gun. Congratulations. I really like that under cut front sight.
I've owned the S&W single shots but never one of the H&Rs. I'm going to have to remedy that.

Ed McGivern ysed to use those!
Julian Hatcher shot a perfect score with one.
Mine is an early one serial 300.

This is a better picture of it.

They were guns of constant evolution and H&R didn't make a dime on them they were built to win.
Mine has much later upgrades the trigger for example.

Some might argue the point of "the finest single shot firearm ever built".

Single shots are a very interesting area. I put a good deal of attention on them and there are some really neat ones. Again for those that think buying interesting and collectable guns has to be expensive an out of your range, look closer at collectable single shots.

USRA

In terms of money spent to make the USRA, it is absolutely one of the finest when comparing how much it cost to produce each one. Estimates are that H&R spent around $150 to make each one, sold them for around $35-40 each just to prove they could make the finest single shot target pistol, which ended due to WW2. It ejects the MT case at high speed, self pushes the bullet directly into the rifling thru the use of a short chamber S&W dubbed an "Olympic Chamber". It is also estimated no more than seven of the pistols are alike, due to Roper's constant improvements, as well as all the variable options. In order to hire Walter Roper away from S&W, he was given an unlimited budget, which explains the high cost per pistol, each one produced after he took over is stamped with an "R" & sport Roper grips.
