Remember The Ipcress File, Funeral in Berlin and The Billion Dollar Brain? Ol Harry was one of my favorite secret agents. Grittier and more intelligent than the Bond films they sometimes creeped me out, especially The Ipcress File. Any other fans out there?

Yeah, I read 'em and liked Michael Caine in the film role.

Ive never seen any cept the Ipcress file and liked it.Ive heard of the Segal stuff but never seen them---yet.

When I was a kid, I had a friend named Paul Ellison. His fathers name was Harry Palmer. When I saw the thread title it brought back memories. Cool!

WOOC(P) was the agency. IIRC, the P stood for provisional.

I remember first seeing it when i was a Teen--and was on a late Sat night. I fell asleep at about the time the Voight character was in Beyreuth and about to sneak into the printers shop. Yep--he stumbled onto an SS/ODESSA conspiracy with the death of a Jewish man who spent time in one of (Maximilian Schells) prison camps. The next time i saw this movie i full--was by DvD--many many years later. Today-its one of my all-time favorites.
What made me really like this film more--was that a short time earlier--I had just come back from a month long trip to Germany and I saw many of the sites you see in the movie. I tink I saw this on DvD about 2 weeks afte I got back?Near the end when he is in Heidelberg--they show (in daytime) the famed Lighted Bridge-hih I waked across at night))-and the hotel he stayed in--I stayed in as well.

Ahh--Mary Tamm.In the book--a certain part o her body was of a diff size. Maria Schell--older sister to Maximilian Schell--was Voights characters mother in the film. Her Brother Maximilian--was the guy Voights character was looking for. As a German militaria collector--I had to laugh at their description of a Knights Cross with Oak Leaves. I THINK they called it an Iron Cross with Oak Leaf cluster---and mentioned few were ever awarded. I reality--at least 880 were awarded.
Aside from a non-important mistake--I love that movie.

Mary Tamm also played Romana on Dr. Who opposite Tom Baker as the 4th DR.

No contest for me--the Deighton and Trevor books, and the movies I remember seeing, were much, much better than the cartoonish Bond books and flicks. The latter certainly were sometimes fun but lacked the edge and bite of the others.

I forgot to mention--stillthinking of: The Odessa File. You know the scene where Voights character goes to an antique store and wanting to buy an Iron Cross. Well, a guy opens a drawer and pulls one out showing the back side of an Iron Cross 2nd class. Anyway, Voights character said he wants one with a Swaz on it--meaning one fromWWII. The guy said all he can sell are ones w/o a swaz. Well, that one in hand was shown with the back side showing (to camera) but was a WWII IC 2nd.All the fool had to do was to "turn it around" heh heh. Anyway,the backsides of the Imperial and WWII ICs had the oak leaves on them. The front side of the 1957 crosse had the oak leaves on them.
