Smith&Wesson gunsmiths offer this service, and Im looking at it for my 5906.

Autopistol 3rd Generation Action Package
Polish Ramp and Hood
Tuned Action
Test Fire for Function

Has anyone had this done, is it worth the $135?

A few years ago, I sent my S&W 4566 to S&W for a duty carry job. It is my favorite 45 ACP, comparied to kimber classic gold match, series I, Colt Mk IV Series 70, and a Detonics 911-01, Glock and XD, all of which are perfect also. It is pricy, but I am satisfied.

I have had the gunsmiths at S&W perform work on many of my guns and if the result was not exactly what I requested, they always made it right, paying shipping both ways. Sometimes they did work and refused payment at all. I am indebted to those folks and will never take my guns anywhere else.

They recently worked on my 1911PD. They did a great job on the polish and trigger job, however, I had to send it back when the plunger tube fell off after less than 200 rounds were fired. They fixed it and so far so good.

I'd use them again, just be sure to check and test fire you gun when it comes back. Especially if it is a carry gun.

One thing that I found that helps a lot, is to call and talk with one of the actual mechanics, like Art Acerra, before sending the gun. The repair people will be able to ask you a few questions and get a better idea of what you need. I had a small problem that might have been overlooked had I just sent the gun in with my written description. Art not only located & solved the problem, he also replaced all the springs in my CS45 and installed a newer guide rod---all at no charge. I sent S&W a very nice thank-you letter.

One of the great advantages of using S&W is that they work on S&W's all day and every day! In other words, they are specialist as opposed to somebody who repairs a lot of different kinds of firearms. Also, they have all the parts on hand they will need in their work. As others pointed out, they stand behind their work, and that is a rare commodity in today's world.

I just had my CS9 return from conversion to DAO by the Smith and Wesson Armorers. The work cost exactly what they quoted and the job came out first rate.I couldn't have been happier with the results.I was critizied because a few people thought the 140 price was too high but I figured who best to do the job than the maker of the original firearm. All the best and God Bless..........Mike
