Has the AR craze died down a little?

I was in my local gunshop yesterday and they had about 10 AR's (new and used) as well as some AK's and 2 Sig 556's. I was pretty surprised to see that. What have you guys...& ladies noticed at your local shops? I see the online guys are still sold out so I didn't expect to see that many EBR's sitting on the floor.

Eventually it will go back towards normal and probably swing just as far the other way for awhile provided the powers that be don't do something to stop sales and/or ownership of them entirely.

I don't know about a slowdown in sales. Was in a shop down in Corpus Christi, TX yesterday and there were only 2 ARs in the whole place. One with a Not for Sale tag on it and another that someone was taking delivery on. The one being delivered struck me as a little off, but it ain't my business. White guy about 26 years old with a nice-looking Latina of about the same age. He was the only one that handled it, yet she declared herself to be the purchaser and she did all the paperwork. A lot of nice looking Latinas down there, just so you know.

Have never had an interest in owning an AR personally. Maybe because the Marine Corps let me borrow one of theirs for 20 years and a couple of weeks. Something like an HK91 would be a different story, I suppose.

(More info than you asked for, but it's Stolichnaya and grapefruit for me on Sundays, so I tend to ramble)

.

Not from what I saw at the gunshow this weekend. There are no guns at formerly reasonable prices. All the complete guns for sale look like the sellers are trying to retire on one sale. Lower parts kits are unobtainable. Mags sell for twice what they did a few months ago. Ammo is available, but at some very high prices. Those who feel its over are just not seeing reality.

I was in my local gunshop Friday to pick up an Auction Arms purchase and I still had to step lightly to avoid the EBR stampede.

AR's are available in this area providing you are willing to pay the price! Local dealer has several at $1700-1800. Plenty were available at a local gun show last month in the $1200-1300 range.

Oh, I don't think it's over but maybe slowing. There were a few for $1k - $1100. A Colt for $1500 and quite a few in between. The AK's were lower in price.

If ammo supplies are any indication, then "things" haven't slowed any that I can see. Purchasing .223/5.56mm, .308/7.62mm, 9mm, .45ACP, .40S&W, .38/.357 Magnum etc. prices are as high as I've seen them in Years. I deal with a number of different sources, on the Wholesale level and many of these sources are nearly or completely dry. Rifles in .308 & .223 are few and far between in just about all models and not just the EBR types.

The bushmasters and S & W's were selling at $800 to $1000 here before the election, now they are $1100 to $1400 and there are no layaways given, cash and carry now.

Yeah, I know the prices are still up but I guess I expected them to still be flying off the shelves.

I think it will become a function of how hard a particular area gets hit with the economic slow down fairly soon? A place now where folks had money till the last 4 to 6 weeks not only no longer "has" money in his/hers 401 K, but this time 1 or 2 months from now, may not even have work. Stay tuned! As Bettie Davis said "Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy night".

There was huge run on them when Obama got in...luckily, through his stimulus package he promised everyone in the country new rims so many have forgotten about buying guns...

I haven't seen the AR craze slowing down in these parts, but if it has elsewhere, it simply means that those folks that want one already have one.

When the Messiah gets around to it, they will be gone...maybe forever.

Spinners? Can't touch them here....

Where in Georgia are you? Here in South Georgia, the local gun emporium is still going wide open. The main "gun guy" goes to church with me. He said this morning that they aren't just selling ARs now, but all types of guns. I was in there Friday after school. There were probably twenty-five people shopping. There were pallets and pallets of ammo. Literally hundreds of 1000 round cases of rifle and handgun ammo. I had to wait as I was going in for a kid on a forklift moving a pallet of .223 ammo from the warehouse into the back of the store. I jokingly told him to just set it on my pickup. Bill said at church this morning that every Saturday is like the Saturday after Thanksgiving or the Saturday after New Years, traditionally the two biggest sales days of the year for this shop, which is in a little sleepy town, but is one of the biggest shops in Georgia.

Dang, a man after my own heart. I got mine when I was about 26. A nice-looking Latina I mean, not an AR. I'm still working on getting the AR. If my nice-looking Latina will let me.

I'm in Norcross, right above Atlanta. Oh trust me, the shop was full, no doubt. While there were people kinda looking over the AR's I didn't see anyone actually buying or showing a genuine interest in them.
