Here is a link to a fascinating exchange on Fox News regarding the abject failure of the gun control lobby.

Watch the Video Here

Some Points.....

-The position of the NRA "is just common sense. The gun control lobby want to take guns from law abiding citizens and do nothing about criminals."

-This is part of the plan of the democratic party to swell their numbers by having strong pro-gun candidates... Particularly in 'red' states.

-The NRA has been very effective despite the media's opposition.

-The NRA connects with the common American.

-The Obama administration will use rules and proceduress to nip away at our rights.

Worth a watch.

I will repeat what I have said before than gun owners and defenders of the RKBA must become
an independent bloc of voters that the Republicans cannot take for granted and the Democrats cannot cross except at their peril.

Funny?
That's long been the way I saw myself anyway?
The day a democrat is better on 2A issues, illegal immigration issues and national defense issues, I'll be a democrat again. (And again I'll say for the jillionth time, that's right! I used to be a democrat!)
But I doubt I'll need to call the moving outfit just yet? Or indeed most likely for the balance of my lifetime? Too much inertia has been built up now. They'll need to well and truly hit the wall in order to recover. Very much like the republicans are doing currently.
Isn't that what it's called in economics? Capitalism causing creative destruction.

True!

More to the point though...

We must move the debate beyond republican vs. democrat and make it an American issue. Make Guns and the second amendment a holy grail issue. No lawmaker would dare go against it. The mere mention of gun control must bring lawmakers to immediate incontinence.

That's what we must do.

The issue I find appalling during these five minute political debates is that they treat the Second Ammendent a political issue and not a fundamental civil right. On the democratic side, our cause had, amoung others, Zell Miller and Bill Brewster. I recall former Rep. Brewster writing a scathing letter to Clinton following the passage of the assault weapons ban in '94. My own representative claims to be a "blue dog," but I would imagine he would be as eagar to vote for another gun ban as he was to vote in favor of the TARP.

My concern is still in the long term...they let us have small victories that take our edge off, then kick us when we've slipped back into condition "white." Allowing loaded guns in national parks is nothing to them as I doubt that the president, nor many other liberals ever have plans of visiting one on their travel agenda. In fact, the only liberals who likely go to national parks are the ones destined to die young for the the cause of hand-feeding the grizzlies. Guns and voting rights in DC are a whole other matter for them, however. Just as the gun bill was attached to a major useless credit industry bill, the same could happen with anti gun bills in the future.

As long as there are elected representatives who talk about enacting "common sense" gun control legislation, there will be a threat to our civil rights. Carolyn McCarthy of NY still hopes that gun control will be revisited later in Obama's administration, likely when they have managed to achieve a stronger liberal majority and that is either deaf to the peoples' voices, or have been dumbed down enough to believe their crap or not to care. Right now, the representatives, democrat or republican have been hearing a lot from the people, and some may actually understand that their failure to listen to will put them out of jobs after the 2010 elections. It really sucks for them when they have to perform like the Constitution intended of them.

The liberals have a credibility issue when they argue common sense gun control to make growing up safer for children. That goes against the other parts of their platform that call for the unrestricted open season on the unborn, and that the very existence of human beings threatens the planet through global warming.

Bottom line, stay focused on the long term.
