I don't know how else to account for this.
K22s have been stalking me all week.
It all started at the local gun show Saturday. I found a nice K 22. Early '50s, narrow rib, correct stocks, about 95%.
I'm thinking this thing is really nice.
I'm thinking $445 otd is a steal.
I'm thinking SS check may not come next month. This is a nice deal but I'd be eating a lot of beans next month. I'll pass.
I get home and check the serial#. 1953. Birth year! I dig into the gun safe for the super secret mad money stash. It's behind the bear trap and the rattlesnake. ( The snake seems to have died several years ago. I'll have to replace it.)
Back to the show Sunday. Someone else got the K 22. Good, I'm off the hook. I can put the money back as soon as I get a new 'snake.
Fast forward to Thursday. I'm at the range/GS and I look down to find a set of Diamond Magnas attached to a narrow rib K22! It's not quite as nice as the one from Saturday, but mechanically perfect and $425 otd! Serial # K18XXX. 1948,the same year as my K38! It's a SIGN! I buy it. Do the paperwork and the nice lady puts it in a L.L Bean sheep skin pistol rug. "This goes with it." she says. Nice Lady!
I clean and lube it, grab a selection of ammo, And back to the range on Friday. This gun loves Remington Golden Bullet bulk pack! ($20/550rds)

Come to think of it, I kinda like beans.

Very nice, those early K-22's are hard to beat. I have K19xxx, and it will outshoot every other .22 I have. Makes me look like I know what I'm doing...

By the way, now that you have the K-22 and K-38, you need to find an early K-32 to complete the set!

Sounds like a shoot-pass gas/ shoot-pass gas kind of thing.
Ramen noodles are kind of tasty this year.
You can always use the K-22 to hunt some small game, squirrel stew!

Just trying to help a brother out. You did the right thing.

Regards

Now that's just plain mean, after all a man can only eat so many beans before people living with him start moving out.

Congratulations on the purchase and those are some really good prices on those two as we don't see them that cheap around here.

Nice find, and I'm seeing all kinds of bargains and discounts on collectible guns... I'm guessing it's the bad and worsening economy, and people having to let go of their prized possessions to keep their heads above water.

you could probably spare a buck or two and put some hot dogs or bacon in your beans to get some variety :D

awesome gun and even more awesome prices! i would have bought both of them and chewed on a piece of leather for a week or two

Beans???

I would eat stale bread for a month to have that K22...

As far as completing the set, I was thinking of a .45 Target Model of 1950. Then I could have the 3 gun bullseye set I lusted for back when I chased the magic 2700.
I had not considered the side effect of the bean diet. You think it might get the Glockenspiel to move up wind? My shooting would improve greatly if I didn't have to deal with the hot brass showers.

pilgrim6a, I have been through three rattlesnakes now, two Eastern Diamondbacks, and one Canebrake. I am thinking of asking one of our members from a western state to send me a Desert Rattler. The venom isn't quite as toxic I hear, but snake survivability might be better. It is aggravating having to replace a snake every few years.;):D:eek:

Seriously, congrats on the find! I have one of those early K22s (4-digits) and there ain't nothin' like 'em.

Yes sir... K-22s are very addictive, especially at those prices. Two weeks ago I didn't have one. Now I got two... Heck, if I could find a decent K-22 priced under 5 bills it would get adopted real quick and I'd have three... or four...

By the way, where would you like me to ship you a new snake? Rattler or copperhead? Both have their advantages - your choice!

Any K-22 or pre 17 under $500 in 80 percent or better condition is a true steal in Pennsylvania. I have a 1954 K-22 and would love to find another older one.

I know how it is to put ones self in a bit of a tight spot buying a "must have" gun!- Just raided my "rainy day" fund to purchase a beautiful model 18-3 then found a nearly mint (some freckles on the bluing) Remington 521-T. Both were the nicest condition I've seen for sale that weren't NIB safe queen material.

You gotta do what you gotta do...

I agree on the deal. I don't see prices like that here in Michigan either. I paid a lot more for a k-22 in similar/slightly less condition 3 months ago.

Wish I would run into all these deals you all seem to find. With the economy in Michigan in shambles, I was figuring on some great deals. Not so much....

im from western pa and now live in eastern pa so when i tell you that seeing a real k22 for sale is rare, throw in under 600.00 and its unthinkable. if a copperhead is ok come around my camp,we will give you a whole bag of them....keep on plinking...

Was it mentioned that "You sir, sucketh!!" LOL Great score..........

Nice gun at a awesome price. We have snakes, but there the "upright 2 legged sort". I could always use a new "rattler" as there not indigenous to Alaska... Kyle

LL Beans...

Look a little like this? :)

That reminds me. Sebago Son's Beans are pistol cases. While mine is a rug. I have no idea how old it is. I have seen people say these were made in the '50s. But I have no good info.

As to the demise of Calvin the Canebreak Rattler. I do find it rather sad. He was a gift from Susan.
I'll never forget the day she left him in my mailbox.
Well, I've always found redheads to be interesting.
