Following up crazyphil's post re: OK State, I salute the Iowa Hawkeyes and their home city/state.
Journeyed to Iowa City Thursday to witness the obligatory beat down of my once upon a time formidable University of Maryland footballers. Despite the 23-zip loss the trip was very cool.
Iowa City is a waaaaaaay cool and vibrant city. Beerrooms everywhere and got to taste some previously unknown brews. Too many to recall, instantly, but will update if I remember.
About the game...great game day experience throughout. Easy walk to Kinnick Stadium...food stands outside the stadium are everywhere. Pork on a stick and pork tenderloin sammies are the bomb. Open container laws are either not in place or ignored.
'THE WAVE' IS THE VERY BEST GAME DAY EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD. PERIOD. Things were a bit blurry. Must have had something in my eyes.
Big steak dinner at Joeph's Steakhouse. Boom. Ditto St. Burch Tavern. Terrific food and excellent service!
On the other hand, Brother's, a Midwest chain bar, TOTALLY FAILED. They promised a 0700 pregame with buffet, Bloody Mary, and 't' shirt for $10. Not only were the doors not open til about 0715, the buffet and shirt were no shows. You failed, Brother's...and lost a lot of business both Saturday and in the future. Trust me.
Learned something quite surprising. Busch Light (Busch Light!) is the number 1 selling beer in Iowa City. C'mon, Iowa City, you're better than that.
All said, B1G fans rock. Always inviting to Turtle Nation. 'Course Turtles play five (5) Homecoming games. Ours and four (4) on the road. Everybody wants a W for Homecoming.
Be safe.
PS: Check my upcoming thread in 'Concealed Carry' for some new (to me) airport experiences.
