Early this year my brothers Golden Lab went off her food. A visit to the vet revealed an aggressive form of cancer and there was just one option available.

A few days later my brother told me that a dog was a 15 year commitment, and at 58 he didn't think he had the time to devote to a new dog. When their cat (still young) went they would be a pet less household.

In late March my SIL travelled to the U.K. for an extended visit with family. She returned via a 3 week visit with her sister about an hour out of Oklahoma City, where they have a couple of German Shepard dogs. She told my brother that until then she hadn't realised just how much she missed not having a dog.

My SIL arrived back in Auckland on Tuesday, and home on Wednesday. When I went up to visit on Thursday my brother told me they were visiting pet shelters this week to look at what was available for adoption.

Yesterday he sent me the attached photo. I knew from the look on his face that it was love at first sight, well at least for him. I wasn't so sure from the pups expression what he was thinking about the while thing.

Sure enough, the pup was already in the car on the drive home when I responded to the text. I went up to meet the pup before my dinner break. He is a Staff cross and his name is Turbo. He was busy chasing the granddaughters (4 1/2 and 6) around the house, until my brother walked into the room when he would go lie at his feet.

Turbo is in for a life of trips to the beach, the lake and up to the farm for long walks and rides on the four wheel bike.
