The SCSW states that the 60-7 engineering and production changes included the 'heat treat package'. What exactly does that mean?

Thanks.

Means the gun will better withstand hot loads without developing cylinder endshake.

I checked with the factory.

Until the time of this change being applied across the entire line the frames and yokes of S&W revolvers were not heat-treated to achieve specific characterictics, only the cylinders. This heat-treating ws part of the "Endurance Package" which is still current standard.

When shooting games which entailed shooting a revolver thousands of rounds a year, usually loaded to maximum pressures, the magnum guns started showing excessive wear. The heat-treating, radiius stud package, floating hand, etc. were intended to make the guns more durable.
