Heiser Holster Colt Police Positive Special

I was in a local gun shop today when a fellow came in with a nickel Colt Police Positive in a tooled leather holster.

The shop bought the gun, and I promptly asked for a price on it. I was told a very fair number on the gun, and the holster in the lot sealed the deal for me.

I know very little about these things, but know enough to know that when I see the name Heiser, that it most certainly is a good thing.

I'd appreciate any information that the good folks here could offer me on this.

Nice find. I would have jumped on it also. Picture Nr 2 looks as if someone did a 'self installed' tie down strap at some point. I am no expert on Heiser holsters but I have never seen one with the (brass?) studs. I wonder if they were maybe owner installed also?

I agree that it is a great find, I also agree that the brass spots are owner installed. Heiser had a couple of models with nickel spots but not like the ones on your holster.
Your holster has lots of character.

Thanks guys for the feedback on it.

I called Dick Burg(rburg) this afternoon and talked to him about it too. He agreed on the studs being aftermarket.


Dick also suggested that I try a few other guns in it to see if anything will fit.

I tried a 4" M&P, and the holster is definitely too snug for it-the trigger guard kept it from going down in the holster.

At the same time, my 5" PPS seemed to fit with room to spare, so it wouldn't surprise me if it would take something as long as a 6" PPS.

Dick said that they could be pretty well dated by the format of the marking...would anyone have an idea of how old this is based on this? The gun that came with it dates to 1934.

I love the old studs on it. They were put on eons ago and it wasn't easy putting the lower ones on an already stitched holster. Can't wait to see the gun in it.

That is really a nice combination gun and holster. And perfectly usable still. This is exactly the kind of stuff I look for in the bottom shelf of gun shop counters underneath all the Glocks and Springfield XYZ's black squirt gun looking pistols.
