I have handled and collected both long and hand guns all of my life, but purchased my first S & W 2 months ago. I have since purchased another. I love the fit and finish, especially on the older wheel guns, and have a couple of questions. Both guns that I own are J frames. According to my S & W catalog the first one, Serial # 123XXX is a 1957 model "Cheif's special" before they were stamped as Model 36. I recently purchased another J frame, Serial # 660xxx which should be in the late 60's (no diamond grips) but should this not also be stamped "Model 36" somewhere on the frame?
