I signed on here to learn more about my S&W commercial M1917. I've already found by the serial # that it was made in the 1920s and that it's in original condition to include the checkered grips. Now I've got to decide if I really want to beat it up shooting USPSA matches with it or let it go to a collector and get a modern moon clipped .45.

Retired Marine, here, Retired from Camp Lejeune NC and NC is now the family home. I'm a life member of the NRA and shoot action pistol matches in USPSA and IDPA. I'm really interested in shooting in the revolver divisions of USPSA and IDPA. This looks like a great site to learn more about S&Ws.

Hello Odessa Straight, welcome aboard & a big THANKS for Your Service to our Country!!

Welcome from Texas Odessa Straight. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

Well for my hard earned $0.02 I would let the old warrior roar again.

I have a Colt New Service in 45 Colt from 1939 that was once issued to a New York State Trooper in 1940.

I am considering qualifying with it and on occasion, carry it as it is still ready to serve.
