I followed this forum for some time and have just joined. I am a devout S&W fan, having a career in law enforcement dating back to the 60's. We carried the Model 15, then later upgraded to the 19, two of the most accurate revolvers (IMO) ever built. I own 2 stubbies, Model 10 and 36, along with a Model 28 Highway Patrolman that my father gave me as a high school graduation present (and no I did not know Wyatt Earp, as my grandson recently asked). I never did make the transition from revolvers to pistols but would like to hear from those old enough who did, esp. their opinions on the differences. I can recall in training the empahsis on ammo management since we only carried six in the revolver and 12 on the belt (the old Remington 158 grain lead nose). The emphsis now seems on firepower, putting as much lead downrange as possible. Thanks!!

Welcome from Texas Steve in Vermont. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

Made the transition back in 1989. If the chief at the time had not decreed we carry 158 lead 38 Spl. +P hollow points instead of 357 magnum loads, I might still be carrying my 586 4" nickled revolver.

Changed to the 4506 as I preferred the 45 ACP to 38 +P loads.

Back in the day carried extra speed loaders so the ammo situation was not as skewed as some might think.
