hi everyone have a gun i would love to find some information about i have been reading alot of the posts on here mybe some one can help me out was left to me in my grand fathers will dont know to much about it checked out the ser# made by colt in 1972 here is a picture if some one could help i would be greatfull grandpa had it insured for alot of money but looking for some more info thanks

Trick to this one will be if your grandpa has left you any documentation or you can find any to prove it was, as the plaque says, used by John Wayne. No proof, I would say maybe $2000+- for a real nice Colt SAA, with proof , just a guess but maybe 10X as much.
Fakers are everywhere, so find the documentation.

ya i have been looking throught all the paper work looking for anything he left ad have been trying to talk to the insurance company grandpa lived i vegas all his life the insurance policy is for 30,000 bucks so some one has some paper work some where a local dealer here in florida was fast to offer me 5,000 kind of worried me he jumped that fast so just looking for more info i looked throught all the movie shoots for that gun did not see it may have to go ahead and pay colt the 300 to 500 for the guns history so far i have found out its real gold engraving and real elaphant tusk handle everyone keeps asking if it shoots i say really thanks for your in put
 
If you have a guy willing to pay $5000, it is definitely worth having Colt letter the gun. (I don't recall it being that much, but I seem to recall they charge more if the gun turns out to be valuable. Call 'em up and ask 'em.) I'd also suggest you check out the Colt Forum. Lots of smart Colt guys over there.
