My original DVD player was a no show after my move. I didn't really miss it until I was lucky enough to receive a nice KARMA from Watchdog consisting
of some very good movies. I was going to buy one but my grandson had a Sony CD/DVD player he was no longer using so he brought it over and hooked it up. A good picture but just the faintest sound with the TV volume all the way up.
Anyone have any ideas? We changed hookup cords but that didn't help. My grandson tried everything he could think of.

No expert, but I’ll guess that the cable/cables between the DVD player and TV are not hooked up correctly, not plugged into the right spots. If its the old RCA three cable, three color combo into the back of the TV, be sure colors match. If it’s a newer connection, optical or HDMI or such, if it fits oughta work, I think.

Good luck.

Output is which way - headphone jack or rca plugs (left-right white-red)? Depending on what you are plugging it into, the impedance may be mis-matched (low impedance output to high impedance input = automatic volume increase. High to high, or high to low, low volume, if any at all).

Make sure plugs are fully seated.

If there is any setting for volume on the DVD player, make sure that is turned up.

Go into the audio settings on the TV and start changing settings.

Trying to fix a device like this is like trying to brush the dirt off the toast after it fell on the ground, butter side down; not worth it.

A brand new Blu-ray player can be had for $40. It will play all the DVDs you currently have and Blu-ray discs should you get a new movie.

EDIT to add:
Shoot, I've got a couple of DVD players I don't really need. Send me a PM with your address, cover the cost of shipping and I send you one.

If you will ID the make and model of both devices, and which cable types (RCA, HDMI) your using, I'll see if the instruction manuals are online.

In-laws got the same problem occasionally, when they tried to "fix" the TV.

My grandson called last night and the missing remote had been found. We were trying to work it with the TV remote. He is at a car show in Weatherford today and tomorrow and will bring the remote Sunday. We will see how it goes then.
This CD/DVD player must not have been common because there was no remote for it in the large number for sale on Ebay.
We will see what happens whe operated with the remote. Thanks for all of the input and offers!

It does sound like the VCR volume is probably very low, on mute or turned off. The VCR plugged into TV is why you are barely hearing the volume from the TV. That's my guess.
