Help! I cannot stop tinkering with my 40c

It must be said that when I first purchased my 40c about 6 months ago I couldn't have been happier with my purchase. But of course I couldn't let perfection and contentment stand in the way of my wanting to make a few "improvements". So in short order I've added a CT Lasergrip, Tru Glo night sights (just for low light redundancy I guess...), and now the Apex aluminum trigger and Duty / carry kit. So in short, I've spent more on additions to my "affordable" m&p than I did for the pistol in the first place. Am I alone in my tinkering affliction or am I just plane insane? My only saving grace, is that I'm enjoying the process and I haven't put myself in debt. But I'm done spending...on this particular firearm : )

It's your money to spend so spend it like you see fit. You might find somewhere down the road that you may change your mind about some particular thing you did, but that's ok as well.

I tend to leave well enough alone and concentrate on making the system work as is, until I have identified my own weakness in operating the system. At that point I try to ascertain if I can work around it with changing my own technique or if hardware mod is better. I usually find that the system needs less work done to it and my own shortcomings are what need improving.

I too am often a victim of "upgrade fever". Just today I picked up a 45c and already ordered Talon grips for it. I will most likely have an Apex FFS in it in a few weeks. But that will probably be it for that one, I'm pretty happy with everything else.

Time to switch and buy ammo, a few spare mags and some range time.

um83canes, you are not alone. Many have fallen into this trap. We can't get enough range time so, we tinker. It's a disease and not to be taken lightly.

I would counsel you to resist the urge. Spend that money on training, practice and ammo. Spend that time at home on dry practice. We'd all be better shots if we spent more time learning to handle our guns rather than tinker with them.

Alas, we are tinkerers. Tinker away my friend, but don't neglect your shooting skills.

I bought an SD9VE specifically to tinker with so that I didn't get caught up in buying toys for the "good" guns. My worry was that I would never get fully accustomed to a gun that I was changing all the time and I always worried about my ability to wind up with a gun that was unreliable at the most inopportune time. I try things out with the SD without worrying.

At least that was the plan.

In reality what happened was that I wound up with an SD9 that I really like, and things that I like about it have found their way to the other guns so I get to buy twice as many toys (not really, but it seems that way -- I have bought the APEX stuff for my 9c and Shield though, and I have a set of Truglo fiber optics sitting here for the Shield).

I'm a reloader though so I get to satisfy some of my tinkering urges that way and it has the added advantage of providing an endless supply of ammo for the range.

If that's what you like, it's cool, but remember to save the original parts. Should you decide to ever sell the gun, you will lose your shirt on those accessories. You would do much better to return the gun to stock, & sell the accessories separately should you ever decide to sell the gun. But enjoy it as it is until then. GARY

You're not alone! I put an FSS and 10-8 rear sight on my 40c and never looked back.
I think I'm done.
